C & W & H Pottery Mark found on the "immigrant trail" covered wagon trail over the sierras
Hi Rick
Many thanks, this site just loves human interest stories like this one - great submission.
The maker is most likely a small short-lived maker from Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire called C & W Harvey who were in business from c.1835-53. They also had a mark C & W K H. This would put a date on when those folks were going over the mountain there. Maybe they were from England and brought their crockery with them. I would love to how the china got broken.
