COLD PORCELAIN PASTE CHARMS

COLD PORCELAIN PASTE CHARMS

Hello there, I make my own cold porcelain paste. I did try many recipes from the internet. I made cold porcelain paste around 8 different times and they all came out bad!

....but I came up with my own way of making the cp paste in the microwave (cooking it in a pan on the cooker is a nightmare)!!

HERE'S SOME NO NO's

Dont! add water to cold porcelain paste it will make it crack

Dont! put your clay project near a window with DRAFT OR IN ANY ROOM THAT HAS COLD AIR COMING IN IT WILL MAKE IT CRACK!

I have also tried many different clays that are air dry:

I have tried "New clay" - stay away from it its a nightmare it cracks more than a 100 year old person LOL!! and falls apart when it has dried :-(

The best cheaper air dry clays that I know of are cold porcelain clays:

"makin clay"

and

"hearty clay"

Good luck to everyone working with cold porcelain. I hope my little report helps!

Hi Nicole

Thanks so much for your interesting report and great tips. I am sure it will be of great help to many of our visitors.

A special thanks for uploading a photo of your work - very fun and colourful.

***UPDATE***

Hey Guys! Peter (admin) here. I feel I must intervene on Nicole's behalf here!!

She has had lots of with people asking for her full recipe. She is a working artist not a hobbyist and although she can give tips and help, she can't give away her recipe for free.

I think her research and expertise requires those of us who would like her recipe to donate a small fee (I feel it quite right she wants to protect it - after all, anyone could steal it and start charging!).

So I have set up a special page for you to access her tried and tested recipe (but return to this page to ask Nicole any questions you might have)....

Nicole's Special Secret Microwave Cold Porcelain(porcelain fria) Page.

I have purchased this recipe
by: Chibimaddy

but have not tried it yet. I am eager to give it a try, as I want to do things that are thicker than flower petals.

I will post again, once I've tried the recipe and share my results.

Thank you Nicole :o) Your work is charming

fun but tricky
by: LM

cp too sticky=keep kneading it.
i made 3 batches so far. all worked but the last one. i realized i just needed to knead longer.
also, only add paint when ready to use it. dont make colored cp ahead. it will not work. this addictive craft is fun but tricky. i found lotion to be the key to success. when starting a craft, put lotion on your hands and rolling surface. otherwise you'll stick to the cp and will not be able to remove cp from rolling surface.

Your commercial Recipe
by: Betty

Hi Nicole,

I worked with Peter. I have paid for and received your recipe. Thank you...one question though.

We live in Florida, in the states. My husband and I went to 2 craft stores, and a home improvement store, and could not find the specific glue you mentioned in your recipe. I would like to tell you what we did purchase to see if it is the correct glue, only under a different name. Please let me know how we can make contact by email or other source to protect your recipe ingredients.

Thanking you in advance.

What is PVA?
by: Peter

Hi Betty

You are right to be careful about what glue you use because this core ingredient will make a difference to the outcome of your CP work.

PVA is "Polyvinyl Acetate"... Don't worry about the brand. It's essentially white craft/wood glue. Elmer's, Titebond, 'Lineco pH Neutral PVA Adhesive' and 'Helmar Acid Free - Neutral pH PVA glue' are four brands readily available in the US. Try Amazon or eBay etc . All four have pH balances between 4 and 6, I believe, whereas other makes like Chinese made PVAs in the dollar store may not be so good for CP as their pH is sometimes up in the 7’s. I am not so sure of the exact effect a high pH glue would have on your CP mixture, but it’s safe to assume using a neutral one to start with is best because then you can always keep your ingredients consistent – which is the idea when perfecting a recipe. In the UK, there aren’t really the same brand names associated with PVA glue. PVA is PVA, and all sorts of different people make it. We don’t have Elmers dominating the market. Check your Elmers and make sure it is "Polyvinyl Acetate" and has a neutral pH balance, and if so, go ahead and use it.

Keep experimenting!

Best regards

Peter

Have all of you tried using glycerin in your cp as a substitute for oil
