Pottery Mark - Whieldon Ware and F. Winkle & Co LTD Fish Tableware Query
Pottery Mark - Whieldon Ware and F. Winkle & Co LTD Fish Tableware Query:- I have a gravy boat and two oval dishes with fish on and under neath it states "Whieldon Ware" and "F. Winkle & Co LTD" and would like to know a bit about them.

Thanks for the interesting submission.
Stoke producer, F. Winkle & Co were first established under the name Winkle and Wood in 1885 at the Pearl Pottery, Hanley. They continued until 1931 when they were taken over by giants Ridgway. 'Colonial Works' was the name of their pottery in Stoke.
They produced ware which they branded as:-
Agra
Old Chelsea
Whieldon Ware
Sometimes, their pottery mark was just the initials F W & Co. The title 'LTD' was only included after 1911.
