Stag head vase - Variation of Standard Royal Worcester mark on stag head vase
Variation of Standard Royal Worcester mark on stag head vase:- I am puzzled about this large stag-head vase (12" tall) that I bought recently at an antiques fair in Liverpool, England. It was sold as Royal Worcester, with the dealer making a point of saying that it was and having put a sticker on the side to that effect.
But the mark on the base (under the glaze) is nothing like the Royal Worcester mark. Presumably it is something "made in China" fairly recently, but I am baffled as to why somebody should put a mark on it that says "Royal Worcester" but which isn't anything like the real one.
I'm not actually concerned whether it's Royal Worcester or not, as I bought it as a decorative item and I think it's absolutely gorgeous (although none of my friends and family agree). I think it's elegant, unusual and beautifully designed and modeled. But I must admit that it's taken the gloss off it a bit that it's got a fake mark on it. Why pretend it's Royal Worcester, when it stands perfectly well in its own right?
I've searched the web for info on "wrong" Royal Worcester marks, but can't find anything. Has anybody come across this mark on anything else, or know where it comes from or if there's much of this stuff on the market?
In the meantime I shall continue to enjoy it, and might get round to putting some flowers in it to make the "antlers".

Hi Jane
Enjoy your Royal Worcester stag vase without fretting any longer. This mark is a standard Worcester mark - just a variation of the normal one. It has been used from 1862 to current on certain editions.
Beautiful item, beautiful bone china porcelain of the highest quality, not a fake.
